In Search Of A Lighthearted Moment

Last weekend, Susan and I were treated to another visit by our good friend Paul Dalbey, formerly of More Front Wing. Last year, Paul came down about this same time and stayed with us. This year, he brought his (much) better-half – his girlfriend Kelli. Suffice it to say that Kelli’s presence made Paul’s visit much more enjoyable for us this year.

Last year, I asked Paul to join us for an episode of One Take Only. For the uninitiated, One Take Only is the videoblog of Oilpressure.com. To say that it is loosely formatted would be an understatement. It usually involves myself and my good friend John McLallen, who started going to the Indianapolis 500 one year before I did (only because he is two years older). We have no outline and no script. We just start the camera and start talking. What we get is what you see.

With Paul back in town, it just seemed logical to record another episode. We talk about Target leaving the series after twenty-seven years. We also discuss the race at Mid-Ohio along with a spirited discussion about this year’s championship battle, as well as other pertinent topics.

This was taped on Saturday morning before the Bryan Clauson crash that night. I had planned on running this on Wednesday, but I felt as if it was not appropriate given the somber mood of race fans. After a rough week, I feel like fans need a chuckle to begin moving on. Whether or not you’ll find a chuckle here is debatable.

But if you’re in the mood for a few light-hearted moments, grab a cup of coffee and ease your mind with a few more pleasant racing topics, rather than the ones we’ve dealt with for most of this week. If it brighten someone’s day, that’s all we wanted.

  1. Thanks guys! One Take Only when I get to work with a cup of coffee is a great way to start a Friday!

  2. Paul, could you kindly give us a link to that article on the financial remuneration the drivers receive by series? That’d be MOST interesting!

  3. So, Kelli and Susan’s segment was edited out?

I’m glad your 50-50 prediction on Pocono’s return turned out to the right 50.

  5. Thanks for the lighthearted moment, guys. I’m with John on missing the Andretti Trophy and the Foyt Trophy for “twisties” and ovals points leaders because I liked that story line. But what’s really missing is the 3rd 500 mile race of the season to complete the Triple Crown. And that comes from a guy who doesn’t like the seams at Fontana and doesn’t like the fast surface that ISC has put onto MIS at Brooklyn, Michigan.
