For a series that needed a shot in the arm in the worst way after staging a two-day non-race in Texas, the Verizon IndyCar Series came up with a timely home-run. If you kept up with this site throughout the weekend, you’ve undoubtedly seen me gush about Road America. I had been wanting to go to a race there for thirty years or so. Now that I’ve finally done it, I want more.

After an eight-year absence, American open-wheel racing has finally run a race at Road America. From what I saw, it was not the most scintillating of races as Will Power pretty much dominated the race leading forty-six of the fifty laps. But there was quite a bit of jockeying for position behind Power throughout the day.
Welcome to a currently wet Road America. It’s raining right now, but the sun is supposed to break through around 10:00 and things should be dry by the race.
Day Two at Road America wound up just like Day One – quickly. To have no set plans for today, the day sure got away from us. For those that were looking for Susan’s post this afternoon – quite honestly, we never came into the media center where she could write it. We were having too much fun. It will be up here first thing tomorrow morning. After some more discussion of Road America, I do get into some racing talk – so bear with me.
Day Two at Road America appears to be more of the same – and then some. As big as the crowd was yesterday, it appears that today will be much bigger. I’m not sure but it looked like we got the last parking space in our lot, and we were here by 9:30. The lots we drove by on the way to ours were filling up also – and this is not race day, at least not for the Verizon IndyCar Series.
Sometimes when you fantasize about doing something for so long, the expectations in your head become so inflated that there is no way for reality to meet those expectations. Such was not the case for Road America today. I have been wanting to come here for more than thirty years. Since I arrived here for the first time ever today, I have not been disappointed. My only complaint? The day went by way too quickly.
Welcome to the beautiful facility known as Road America, located in Elkhart Lake Wisconsin. I will try to be aware of how many times I use (or overuse) the word beautiful. But it’s been hard not to in this area. This is the first time I have been to the state of Wisconsin since 1972, when I was fourteen. My memory is not great, because I have no recollection of the beauty we’ve seen since we got her yesterday afternoon.
