One Single Thought From Pocono
Throughout most of yesterday’s IndyCar race at Pocono Raceway, I was compiling notes for my usual “Random Thoughts” posts that I always write for the Monday immediately following a race. While there are a lot of observations about each race and the underlying storylines – there are also a lot of snarky and tongue-in-cheek opinions stated in those writings.
Given the circumstances of the accident involving driver Justin Wilson, none of the humorous and light-hearted comments I had planned seemed appropriate or even important. The updated championship points, the uncertain status of next year’s Pocono’s race or anything else that we usually talk about here no longer seemed to matter. All I could do Sunday night was try to find any credible news report and hope for the best. A statement from IndyCar said that Wilson suffered a severe head injury, is currently in a coma and in critical condition at Lehigh Valley Health Network in Allentown, PA.
Chip Ganassi Racing’s Mike Hull stated it best just after the race when he simply said “Hoping Justin Wilson comes back to us – the rest is secondary”. I completely agree. There are no random thoughts from Pocono today, there is only one singular thought – keeping Justin Wilson and his family in our thoughts and prayers.
