Welcome To Barber Motorsports Park

Welcome to a sunny and surprisingly warm barber Motorsports Park near Birmingham, AL. I realize we’re three hours due south of Nashville, but I’m surprised how warm it is here. When we left Nashville this morning, it was a chilly 43-degrees. My phone says it is currently 72 here, but it feels much warmer than that. I may have to get rid of the sweatshirt I was wearing this morning.

For the first time ever for this event, there is no IndyCar activity on-track today. But when we arrived, the sound of race cars were echoing through the woods here. No matter what series, that’s always a pleasant sound. The IndyCar teams arrived here yesterday. they are pretty well set up by now, but there wasn’t a ton of activity in the paddock when we arrived. We will take a more leisurely stroll down there in a bit to see what might be stirring.

Schmidt Peterson Motorsports will be making a driver announcement tomorrow morning regarding their third car for Indianapolis. I have my guess who that might be, but I’ll not speculate.

The severe weather is now supposed to hit around Midnight and continue until morning, before moving on out. It’s still debatable whether or not it will impact the first IndyCar practice, which starts at 9:00 am (central time) tomorrow. The second practice starts at 12:40 and indyCar Qualifying is at 3:55. If you want real time results, follow live streaming on IndyCar.com. Otherwise, set your DVR for 1:00 am (central time) Sunday morning.

It looks as though the weather will  not have any impact on Sunday, whatsoever. The current forecast calls for sunny skies and 85-degrees. There will be no sweatshirt that day.

This will be the only post for the day from here, since there is no on-track IndyCar activity. Tonight, Susan and I are headed to check out a place that everyone has raved about for years – Rusty’s Bar-B-Q in Leeds (which is where the track is actually located). Too many people have raved about that place for too many years. Since our hotel is near the track this year, we’ll give it a try.

In the meantime – we will both be posting on Twitter today and tonight. Follow me at @Oilpressureblog or Susan at @MrsOilpressure for plenty of photos and comments. We’ll both be at the track early tomorrow so check back then.

I will assume that you brought your IndyCar rib bibs. All cotton of course.
