Practice 1 Is In The Books
The first practice and the only practice before the run for the pole for the MAVTV 500 is now wrapped up. There will be a final practice tonight at 6:05 local time. At the top of the charts is Will Power who turned a lap at 220.889 mph early in the session. Tony Kanaan was second quick in his last practice for KR Racing before he moves on to Chip Ganassi Racing. Kanaan’s speed was 219.797. The remainder of the top five was James Hinchcliffe, AJ Allmendinger and Helio Castroneves.
Predictably, the Chevy engine is strong at this track. The fastest Honda was points leader Scott Dixon, who was just .02 seconds slower than than Castroneves, who trails Dixon by twenty-five points in the championship.
There were two incidents during practice. Pippa Mann reportedly hit the seasom in the track and lost the back end in Turn Four. Not far from there, Takuma Sato also crashed bringing out a second yellow. Both drivers were unharmed, buit the same cannot be said for their cars. While other teams will be fine-tuning their cars for qualifying; the Coyne and Foyt teams will be thrashing to get their cars repaired for qualifying.
Here are a few pics from practice…
Well, a deep philosophical discussion on politics and the government shut-down has broken out next to me in the media center. That’s my cue to leave. I’ll be back here after qualifying. Please check back.
