Welcome To Barber Motorsports Park

The day started off right as we got away (almost) on time this morning. I washed my car last evening just to get to go through about a two minute downpour on the way down. Fortunately, that was the only mishap of the whole trip.

As we got out of the car to get our credentials, the first person I saw was Bryan Herta. It’s hard to believe but he didn’t recognize me, like I did him. Once we got on the grounds, we immediately spotted Pippa Mann. She and Susan compared engagement rings and discussed her wedding plans (not ours). By the way, for those that didn’t see it on Twitter just before Sunday’s race – Susan and I announced our engagement. Wedding plans are currently TBA.

Pippa was surprised that she got to show her left hand instead of the one still showing the effects of the Dan Wheldon crash at Las Vegas. What was she doing when we spotted her? Chatting it up with fans, of course. I still say she is one of the best ambassadors of the IZOD IndyCar Series. She needs to be in a car sooner than later.

The IndyCar practice starts at 12:30 so we want to be out on the grounds for that. But more importantly – lunch is about to be served in the Media Center.

Check back later…

  1. I would like to see Pippa have a similar role to the one Dan Wheldon had last year on the NBC Sports Network broadcasts (assuming she does not get a ride soon). I would think all the drivers in the paddock have a positive opinion of her and having her insights would add to the broadcast. Additionally, with the lack of Lindy on the broadcast this year there is really a need to add a female personality to the mix.

  2. way to put a ring on it, george.

I’m hearing the red tyres (I’m acting English) are falling off faster at Barber. That’s good. It seems like the difference was minimal at St. Pete and what’s the point if there’s not a big difference.

pippa’s a great representative for Indycar. hope she finds a seat.

you see the big lady in the lake?
