Come In From The Rain!
As the IZOD IndyCar Series was beginning to run their practice, someone got the bright idea to go to the other side of the track and watch practice from there. Um, that someone was me. Shortly after we got over there, the bottom fell out. We took shelter under a hospitality tent, until they ran us out because it was unsafe with the approaching lightning. Now I understand that an ungrounded tent with aluminum poles is not the safest place to be in a thunderstorm, but I’m not sure turning everyone out into the adjacent woods was such a great idea either. We finally maged top grab a tram and make it back to our car and waited out the rain. We are now in the dry confines of the media center enjoying a cup of coffee, while it still drizzles outside. The good thing about a road course is that rain or shine, cars are still running. The IndyCar Series is set to return to the track at 3:30 local time.
When the rains came, the top ten were:
1 Will Power Chevy 1:11.289 16
2 Helio Castroneves Chevy 1:11.501 18
3 Takuma Sato Honda 1:11.561 21
4 Josef Newgarden Honda 1:11.588 19
5 Rubens Barrichello Chevy 1:11.603 25
6 Marco Andretti Chevy 1:11.626 17
7 Tony Kanaan Chevy 1:11.680 19
8 Simon Pagenaud Honda 1:11.702 15
9 Dario Franchitti Honda 1:11.742 16
10 Graham Rahal Honda 1:11.953 20
Hopefully, the rain will stop before the IndyCars hit the track again. Regardless, we’re going to stay a little closer to the media center this time. I’ll post some pictures from this morning shortly.
Check back later…
