Welcome To Barber Motorsports Park
I’ve been here for only about forty-five minutes, but it I can already tell it’s going to be a good day. They had heard of us at media check-in (always a good thing). We helped ourselves to the free breakfast, although I’m pretty sure it wasn’t intended for us. Then headed to the track. We got a good parking spot and caught one of the millions of Honda Odyssey courtesy shuttle to bring us to the media center.
Just as we were about top pull away, some one yelled and asked if there was room for one more. It was Al Unser, Jr. Not only was he willing to talk to us, he initiated the conversation. On the ride in, we discussed his two Indy wins, the state of IndyCar and he taught me something I never knew about Nashville Superspeedway – the reason why the racing groove is so narrow is that is because they only ground the concrete surface about halfway up the track. he explained had they ground it all the way up, it would have been a much more race-friendly groove.
The weather isn’t great, but promises to be better for tomorrow and Sunday. Right now, it’s overcast, windy, a little cool and looks like it may rain. If it does, we’ll just head back here to the media center and enjoy the free food. I could get used to this lifestyle.
Anyway, we’re going to go walking and check everything out. The IndyCars don’t practice until this afternoon, but the Continental Tire Series and the Rolex Grand-Am cars are about to run. Check back in a little bit.
