It’s Almost Race Time!

Well, it’s been a pretty typical race day afternoon. There has been a good crowd milling around in the garage area and a few driver sightings here and there.

I think they did a wise thing moving the green flag back to 6:10 for the sunlight. The sun is very bright here for whatever reason. Glare makes it touch just to see who is walking your way. I can’t imagine driving 220 mph into the sunlight and not being able to see where you’re going – even for a split second.

There are two things that the teams didn’t count on – it’s hotter than they were expecting (it was 90 at 3:00) and it is very windy today. There was not any noticeable wind yesterday during qualifying, but today there is a strong wind blowing from the west, meaning the drivers will be headed into the wind headed down the backstretch. While the days have been warm here, the temperature drops noticeably once the sun goes down. I’ll be curious if the same happens with the wind, otherwise it could play a factor in the race.

Cars are now headed from the garage onto pit lane. We’re going to head out there and enjoy everything. This will be my last post until after the race. But please follow us on twitter at @Oilpressureblog (George) or @chiapet58 (Susan). We’ll both be tweeting from the pits before the race (with a few pics) and occasionally during the race. Then, I’ll be back here with a wrap-up after the race is over.

Enjoy The race!
