Good Morning From Auto Club Speedway!
Well, I suppose to many, it’s afternoon. The California weather is not overrated. It is an absolutely gotgeous day here at Fontana. Coming into the track was beyond easy. get off I-10, go about a mile to the north and you’re here.
Practice for the MAV TV 500 started just after we got settled in the track. We saw our friend Pippa Mann in the garage area just before practice and had a quick chat with her. Unfortunately, after just a few laps, Pippa found the wall in Turn Four and did some damage to the right rear suspension of her car. As I type, the track is still under caution as they clean up the debris.
I’ve always considered this to be a flat track, but television is deceptive. The turns look very banked in person – even the front-stretch. I was also surprised at the sprawling size of the stands as we arrived here. The track itself is only half a mile shorter than IMS, so I shouldn’t have been surprised at the size – but I was.
Well, they’ve gone green, so we’re going out to breathe some ethanol exhaust and enjoy the live sight of race cars for one more time this season. I’ll be back after practice. Check back soon. And for pictures and quicker updates follow me (@Oilpressureblog) and Susan (@chiapet58) on Twitter. Back in a bit.
