Friday Practice Wrap-Up
My partner-in-crime on the One Take Only videos, JohnMc, called me just after the second practice ended – to chastise me for posting only once since I got down here. My response was…I was at a racetrack. I wanted to be out watching cars and taking in the track instead of typing away in the media center on what turned out to be a beautiful day. Besides, if you follow me on Twitter (@Oilpressureblog) I was tweeting pics from the pits throughout the afternoon. JohnMc is on Twitter but never pulls it up. Go figure!
Since my last post, we caught up with our good friends, Tad & Silvia, who we only get to see at races. After visiting with them for a bit, we made it out to pit lane for the second IZOD IndyCar practice. Helio Castroneves was the quickest, followed by Alex Tagliani, Tristan Vautier, Simon Pagenaud and Will Power. Aside from the two Chevy’s from the Penske camp making up the first and fifth quickest – there were some new faces with Honda power making up the second, third and fourth quickest time.
AJ Allmendinger turned only five laps, but turned in the eighth quickest time of the session. Dario Franchitti struggled and could only produce the fourteenth quickest speed. Tony Kanaan had an equally disappointing day and could only manage a time that was sixteenth. His KV Racing Technology teammate was just behind him with the seventeenth quickest time. KV has a long night ahead of them to get ready for qualifying tomorrow.
If you are on Twitter, chances are you’ve come across tweets from Patsy White (@patsywhite). She works for NBCSN and is the “spotter” for Jon Beekhuis in the pits. She and I have conversed through Twitter for a couple of years now, but had never met until today. It was good to finally meet her and have an actual face to face conversation with her.
I’m posting a few pics below, but John, I promise to have many more tomorrow.
We’re going to pack it in for the night, but we’ll be back here tomorrow for qualifying and soak in more of the racing ambience.
