It really wouldn’t be a surprise. After all Hinch has commentated ChampCar for Eurosport in 2007, and in 2012, he was commentating Star Mazda alongside his IndyCar drivers duties.

Once he’s done with driving – hopefully not in a foreseeable future – you have a sense that he will wish to do more.

Great article George. Last year (2011), James came to the May IndyTweetup on Thursday before the race and was just a great guy – funny, engaging, friendly. Signed autographs and posed for pictures with all who asked. Afterward, I tweeted a picture of James and made some comment that he was easy to like because he “…acts like just a regular guy.” He replied back to me a couple of hours later saying “Thanks for the compliment, but I am just a regular guy fortunate enough to get to race and meet lots of people.” That tweet probably sums up in one sentence what makes him special. I agree that Pippa gets it, too. From meeting her twice, I think Simona gets it too, but doesn’t have the social media skills of James and Pippa. We need more like the three of them in the paddock.

It was a shame that he missed to pole at Indy last year. It would have been great to have him going on Letterman and the media tour as the pole winner. Ryan Briscoe seems like a nice enough guy, but he isn’t going to move the needle for the series. I think that a guy like Hinch could move the needle.

I hope he starts winning races, especially the Indy 500, because he would make a great face of the series. Can’t be that without the wins, though.

All of Hinch’s humor and accessibility would just be mildly entertaining if it wasn’t for the fact that he’s a real, real good driver. He’s an easy guy to support and I’d be disappointed if he didn’t pick up a couple of wins next season.

I voted for the first option, but I could have equally included the other three. He was a fraction of a second from being this past year’s Indianapolis 500 Pole Winner!

If only everyone … OK even half … of IndyCar shared Hinch’s (and Pippa’s) clarity on who really matters most in racing (hint: it’s the fans).

George, I couldn’t agree more about Hinch, he is a great competitor and his devotion to the fans gives the Mayor a huge following of fans. Hinch and RHR are the type of drivers that you can build this series around.
