Glad to hear that your race day experience was more than nightmarish traffic.
We had our own troubles finding the merchandise we wanted (a pet peeve of mine). Many drivers are under- or unrepresented, others have only lame or cliched offerings.

Also, I'm envious. I just want to touch the yard of bricks one day...

I can see where they wouldn't have the die-cast cars because it takes a minimum of 3 months for those to come from China (before everyone jumps on the Made in China vs. America--unfortunately, no one would pay that much for a die-cast car if it were made in the US). I remember where they air-shipped several of Marco's Indiana Jones cars before Indy--where everyone who entered the speedway earlier in the week bought one, thinking to sell them on ebay because they were "rare"--then the rest of the shipment came in about a month later, leaving all those people with not-so-rare cars they couldn't sell. But hats are pretty easy to get in the US. We will anxiously look for them online. Keep us updated on twitter, I'm about ready to throw that old hat he is now wearing away...maybe I can persuade him to wear a nice blue sponsor of IndyCar hat when he dresses up.

I have Tweeted back and forth with KV Racing about the TK hat and the upshot is that they have not had time to do one. I ponted out to the them that some fans, such as myself, are, um, too well endowed for their tshirts and prefer hats. In theory they should have one eventually. Remember that a lot of that is arranged well before the season starts and they only signed Tony 3 days before St. Pete.

Many kudos to you for writing these great perspective pieces, and to George for letting them onto his site. It's so refreshing on race weekend to run into people who don't obsess over every detail about the series and watch them see for the first time something moving at 225 m.p.h. Maybe they're just there to watch the Carb Day concert or whatever, but you can watch the sights, sounds, and smells just take over and know they might just come back the next year.

Also, definitely agreed on the Kanaan swag! I was never able to find that shirt with the 82 on the back while I was on the grounds, and I was more than willing to make poor decisions with my money this past weekend. My old Team Lotus polo sufficed, but KV needs to get on this!

Time together with your child; whether 2, 12 ore 21 years old is special! So glad memories were made and you both realized how to convey that to each other! Even the rough times of missing an exit or a nasty look can be laughed about later! It was a good day!
