George: You & I are polar opposites when it comes to paint schemes. The 1995-1996 Valvoline Walker liveries were the absolute BEST schemes the Kentucky based oil company ever had. The Valvoline "V" leading to dynamic & flowing accent stripes & the tilted oversised "V" near the fuel filler & roll-over hoop... Absolutely BEAUTIFUL :!: :!: :!:

As for Raul's Copper Orange & Black DURACELL cars... I've never seen that color in a baby's Pampers :!: :) :) IMO the cars were distinctive & easy to spot on track.

As for Penske... they are going to be a little Newman Haas like. White tub, black sidepods, with a day-glow red accent stripe. Beyond BORING :( If Roger isn't getting a big check ftom Phillip Morris, you know the cars had to change. I just wish the cars didn't look so boring... even Penske's non Marlboro cars have looked ground breaking, but not this time :( :(

I subscribed to Indy Car and Championship Racing magazine from the late 1990s through it's end, when it was largely if not entirely CART-focused and just called Championship Racing.

I seem to recall the final issue being mailed in the fall of 2001, covering events in August and September through CART's post 9/11 race at the German oval. It had a classy textless cover featuring an American Flag and Alex Zanardi's car.

Instead of the next issue, I recieved a card from RACER stating that Championship had ceased publication and they were honoring the rest of my subscription with issues of their magazine.

I still follow silly season with great interest, though it can be dissapointing more than fun these days seeing guys like Rice, Rahal, Hunter-Reay, and Tracy on the outside looking in.
In spite of that, the new chassis talk, along with the typical driver move rumors and confirmations have made this one of the better silly seasons in recent years.

I do miss the speculation (and then, confirmation) about new paint jobs and sponsors.
I loved the inserts that Honda used to put in Indy Car and Championship's preseason issue featuring pictures of each Honda-powered driver and a side view of their car, confirming what it would look like that season.
For a few years, CART did something similar, publishing a little supplamental magazine previewing the upcoming season that contained wonderful full color illustrations of each paint job, similar to the paint job illustrations included in the Autocourse CART yearbooks.

The IRL has used similar illustrations to display the starting grids online before each event. I wish they would keep the grid pictures in an archive somewhere online, but I don't think they do. I haven't been able to find them, either in PDF or HTML form.
